Park Hours

The arboretum grounds and trails are open from 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day, according to Portland Parks & Recreation, which owns the park. The parking lots and the roads through the arboretum close at 9:30 p.m. as well, so plan to be back at your car before then.

Hoyt Arboretum Friends, the nonprofit that runs the Visitor Center, gives 10 p.m. as the closing time on its own site. The city's 9:30 p.m. is the safer figure to plan around.

Visitor Center Hours

The Visitor Center at 4000 SW Fairview Blvd is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Staff and volunteers at the front desk hand out free paper trail maps in English and Spanish and suggest walks for the season. The two all-gender restrooms in the courtyard are unlocked by park rangers around 7 a.m. and closed around 9 p.m., so they are usable outside Visitor Center hours.

Is Hoyt Arboretum Free?

Yes. There is no admission fee and no ticket. You can walk in from the street, the MAX station or the Wildwood Trail at any time the park is open. Most guided public tours are free too; see tours.

Parking Fees

Parking is the one thing you pay for if you drive. The city charges the same rate across Washington Park's main lots, including the Hoyt Arboretum lots:

Once you have paid and parked, moving your car to another Washington Park lot means paying again. Use the free shuttle instead. See parking for every lot and the accessible spaces.

Free Shuttle Hours

The Washington Park Free Shuttle loops through the whole park and stops in front of the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center.

It does not run on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day or in bad weather. Dogs cannot ride, except service animals.
